Current Mood: sick
Shaun and I are back in the US, and goodness, I think we tested just about every portion of that wedding vow except "til death do you part".
The wedding went off fantabulously. Infact, if I had thought about it, I would have known it was too flawless. ><
We took our honeymoon on a Caribbean cruise, stopping in Cozumel and Belize City. The flight down and check in to the boat went without a hitch. We sprang for a balcony room, and the view was absolutely gorgeous. The true adventure started on our first full day out at sea. We had second seating for dinner(8:30) which was kind of late for us, but we were really only planning on going to the "formal" tux and dress night....which would have been fine if Shaun hadn't forgotten his shoes to go with said tux. Suffice to say, flip flops look a little funny with a tux. It turned out ok though, we went to the seated dinner in less formal attire the next night and our tablemates were snoody to say the least.
Wednesday rolls around and we have a day in port at beautiful Cozumel. We had a shore excursion at a little beach resort with all sorts of fun stuff like paddleboats, water trampolines, canoes, etc. Due to springbreakers, however, the beach was a little over crowded, and due to the plastic hook on my swimsuit top snapping in half(!!!) we left for the shopping center a few hours early. Window shopping was a lot of fun, but it was good that we weren't all that interested in actually buying anything. Appearantly, Mexicans really like the American dollar, and really hate traveler's checks. We finally found a Hard Rock Cafe that would take them and we both got some neat shirts from there. I also finally got to eat at a Margaritaville (go parrotheads!) which we missed out on last time we were near one. A tip for anyone who goes crusing....just because you can see the boat, doesn't mean that it's close enough to walk to! We decided that it was nice enough outside, and since we could see the boat, we walked back instead of taking a taxi. Roughly 3-4 miles in flip flops was not fun, but we came back with some wonderful pictures. Then the cold hit, and by cold I mean flu...Shaun caught some kind of sinus crud that knocked him out for the rest of the evening.
Belize City and a horseback tour through the forests was Thursday's port of call, and thanks to some good meds, Shaun was feeling well enough to go. The horseback tour was loads of fun, and the views were pretty awesome. On the downside, the camera battery died, but that's ok, cuz shaun's phone camera is practically as good. The only hitch to the port stop was not getting back to the port until 5 minutes before we had to back on the ship...so no shopping in belize. The real disaster came that night, when we realized that the ship wasn't getting back to Fort Lauderdale until Saturday....and our plane tickets were for Friday night! (silly me misread the itinerary.... >< ) So a short stop to the help desk and a free phone call home later, our families back here were on the fast track to getting us tickets back on Saturday.
Friday's story is kinda boring. Being practically exhausted, and Shaun still being sick, we spent most of the day in our room and made good use of the balcony on our final day at sea.
Saturday, we checked off the boat, made it to the airport, and set about trying to get a flight earlier than our booked 8pm flight back to atlanta where we still had a three hour ride home. Got a hold of Delta's help line, the first flight home was 4:15, but we couldn't change our tickets until 1:15. Called back at 1:15, only one seat left, but there's seats on the 5:15, call back in an hour....ugh. Called back again, "I'm sorry, there's only one seat left on that flight." ACK!!! At this point I'm crying on the phone to the delta lady(we were ready to be home) and she says "give me a minute, I need to check something". So when she comes back she says, ok, we can both get on that flight, and oh, by the way, she'll wave the 100$ fee for transfering flights. So I'm thinking, woohoo, I played the pity card and saved us 100 bucks. Going through security was fun too! Because we transfered flights and had last minute one way tickets, we got flagged to go through extra screening. At this point, I'm so deleriously happy to be going home that it's rather amusing. I've never been searched before, but I was game and the security lady was nice. So naturally the first words out of my mouth on the other side were "woot, I got frisked!" It was worth a chuckle.
So now we're back, Shaun's feeling better, and it's my turn to have the death. Laundry still needs to be done, and there's a large pile of presents lurking in the corner of our apartment. I think I'm done with adventures for awhile. ^^
oh, and sorry for the lengthy post...I forgot how to hide things behind links.... |
